ENGINEERING LARGE COMPONENTS FOR ROBUST MATERIAL HANDLING MACHINERY

If you manufacture material handling or agricultural equipment, you will need metal components that fulfil their design functionality, whilst also adding much needed heft to machinery that will often be pushed to its limits by your customers. Crossen Engineering has the equipment, experience and expertise to make metal parts of the size and strength needed for material handling.

CONTROL YOUR MANUFACTURING PROCESS

All tooling, prototyping and metal forming is done on-site at our premises outside Belfast, N. Ireland. Your parts don’t need to be transported anywhere during the production process, so you can control lead times more easily.

Our design team will advise on material selection and the metal forming process to ensure that your finished component is as strong as possible and perfectly suited to its intended use.

TAKING THE STRAIN OF MAKING STURDY METAL PARTS

Material handling machinery manufacturer Hyster specialises in the production of forklift trucks and other stacking and warehousing equipment. Having worked with the company since 1998, we have collaborated with Hyster’s new product development team on the creation of 42 different parts for its trucks. This includes a reinforcement plate for an under- bonnet application, user operating levers and tread plates for when the driver is climbing into the truck. We have also worked with Hyster’s engineers to develop & produce interior Plastic Injection Mouldings for control applications.

In the case of the engine hood, our design team gave its input to ensure the part emerged from the metal forming process as strong as possible and ready for robust everyday use. We proposed the use of an automotive grade high tensile steel, which provides the strength and weight needed, as well as responding well to pressing.

LOWERING COSTS, INCREASING VOLUME

We manufactured tooling for the parts required, then sent development samples to Hyster for approval. With the design and material approved, we put in place the processes to reduce the unit cost while meeting and sustaining high volume demand for the parts.

To date, we have manufactured 250,000 reinforcement plates. We currently supply 3,000 per month, which we deliver plated, powder-coated, and ready for use on Hyster’s assembly lines in Northern Ireland, Brazil, the Netherlands and the USA.
