SAFER, SMARTER AND STRONGER CONSTRUCTION METAL FORMING

Having collaborated frequently with customers on lintels, flashings, window products, we were approached by a customer during development of a non-combustible cavity tray system.

Our tool room team worked with the customer to develop a patented interlocking joint overlap, which creates a watertight joint without the use of sealants, and a weep vent through which water is channeled out. After selecting a 304 austenitic stainless steel that gives the system a lifespan of more than 125 years, we undertook a process of prototyping, trialling and full production to perfect each of the integral metal components.

We also ensured the design complies with Document B of the Fire Safety Regulations (2019), which requires the use of steel framing systems in the external cavity in buildings over 18m following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

The customer has now taken to market its A1 fire rated cavity tray system, which provides damp-proof course protection over lintels, masonry supports, soffit systems and other cavity elements. The product not only improves safety in taller buildings, but also limits the opportunity for installation errors on site.
